The school counselor at Bunn Elementary School believes:
- All students can achieve with proper support, care, and guidance.
- Every student should have an opportunity to achieve academic success regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, physical abilities, religious views, or socioeconomic status.
- All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program.
- All students’ developmental abilities and multi-intelligences should be considered in planning and implementing the school counseling program.
- All students should be instructed with a holistic (mind/body connection) approach in providing counseling services.
- All students should have access to full-time, state certified, masters degree-level school counselor to deliver the school counseling program.
- Advocate the equitable treatment of all students.
- Be an integral part of the total educational program.
- Be comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature with a multidimensional perspective.
- Be based on specific standards and developmental competencies as advocated by Franklin County Schools, the state of North Carolina and ASCA.
- Be developed, coordinated, and implemented in collaboration with students, educators, parents/guardians and community representatives.
- Use data to drive program development, evaluation, and improvement.
- Focus on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for successful academic achievement, career development, and personal /social growth.
- Be evaluated yearly in coordination with a district counseling supervisor and site administrators on specified goals and student competencies.
- Abide by the professional school counseling ethical code as stated in the guidelines of the American School Counseling Association.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Continuously monitor counseling program and school goals.
- Advocate for all community learners.
- Be in alignment with FCS collaborative goals.
